Chapter 2

The Countdown Begins!

Monday afternoon, I went over Kayley’s house to study for a huge chapter test in math, we have to take it Thursday because we will be on our fantastic trip while the rest of the class takes it. I was starting to become very skeptical about leaving my family for this trip, so to make me feel better Kayley was saying the advantages of going.

“It will be super fun; we even get to stay in a fancy hotel in a suite!” Kayley exclaimed.

“Ya, you are right. Plus it’s a privilege that they are going to let us walk around be ourselves.” I stated

“Plus, there will be more time for you to get to know Tyrone. Maybe we could all go on a double date!” Kayley said while laughing.

I threw a pillow at her, while I started to laugh as well. Even though I barely know the guy, I think it would be totally if Tyrone and I got more time to spend together, getting to know each other. But I could never tell Kayley, there are some things you just can’t tell anyone, not even your best friend. Just then Kayley got up and started to mimic our Social Studies teacher. Today in class, he was going on and on about World War II, and then from nowhere a spider fell off the ceiling and onto his head, and he freaked out! Kayley’s imation was perfect, and there we where, lying on her floor cracking up. Life couldn’t get any better than this.

When said life couldn’t get any better, I was wrong. When I got home my parents had a little surprise waiting for me.

“Oh my gosh! Thank you so much mom and dad! I love my new ipod!” I said.

“Your welcome, now you have something to listen to on the plane ride.” Mom said.

The next day at school I showed Kayley my new ipod touch, she was so fascinated.  Kayley left me a note on my locker that asked me to go to the library during fifth period. It looks important so I got a library pass, and went to the library.

“Look at this necklace!” Kayley exclaimed.

“It is so beautiful! Where did you get it?” I asked

“Nolan! I’m never taking it off!”

That night Kayley texted me and asked me what page the math homework was on. Typical Kayley, always thinking she could remember something, but really she couldn’t. We texted for a while, then she had to go, Nolan was calling. So I went downstairs and got some ice cream. As I turned the corner to go into the kitchen I saw my little twin sister having a marshmallow fight, so I turned around and went back upstairs. The ice cream could wait.

Wednesday was a bland day at school, nothing exciting happened, but Thursday was exactly the opposite. First of all, the fire alarm went off right as Kayley and I were about to take are math test, and then they couldn’t get it to stop ringing! Second, the lunch ladies mixed up the lunch menu, and instead of fish sandwiches and broccoli, it was pizza and fries. A much better meal if you ask me. Third, and maybe best of all, my plane ticket arrived today in the mail. It’s official now, no turning back.

Friday night Kayley and I had another one of usual sleepovers, except this time, it was at my house, and Nolan didn’t show up, he was out with Tyrone and some other friends. I’ve been practicing painting nails since I was eight, and I’m pretty good at it to, on the other hand Kayley is not so good. She’ll be the first one to admit it too. She’s not horrible at it, but she has different talents that well I don’t. We are pretty much opposites, which might be why we are such good friends. When we were done with nails, Kayley’s looked pretty good, and mine well, let’s just say it wasn’t her worst.

The sleepover was a lot of fun, but Kayley texted Nolan so much, that I wondered if I left, if she’d even notice that this was my house, and I was gone. I wouldn’t count on it though; she’s not very good at paying attention. Saturday before Kayley went home, we went to the mall, even though I’m saving all of my money for the trip, I thought it would be fun.

“Wouldn’t this look good on me?” Kayley asked.

“Yes it would, it looks really warm too!” I said.

“I know doesn’t it, I think I will wear this on the plane ride,” Kayley said.

“Cool, I haven’t thought about what I was going to wear,” I stated.

Sunday night I couldn’t fall asleep, to excited I guess, because all I could think of was New York. I guess Kayley felt the same way because she texted me and said “I am so excited!”

I didn’t respond, started to become very tired, and shortly fell asleep.
